Haircut, Scheduling, Matting, etc...

These policies apply to all clients with dogs requiring regular haircuts, including breeds such as Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers, Poodles, Bichon Frise, Havanese, Coton De Tulear, Shih Tzu, Wheaten Terriers, Cocker Spaniels, Schnauzers, all Doodles, and many other long-coated mixed breeds.

When it comes to maintaining your pet's coat, three key factors come into play: the frequency of professional grooming, at-home maintenance, and the desired length of the haircut. We strive to strike a balance between these factors that aligns with your budget, schedule, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences.

                                                             Scheduling

Clients are expected to maintain a schedule of appointments appropriate for their dog's coat type, grooming routine, and style preferences. This schedule should ensure that dogs arrive at their appointments without matting or excessive overgrowth. Consistent appointments also allow us to build a rapport with your pet, fostering familiarity with our salon and process. This, in turn, minimizes stress during grooming sessions and enables us to better meet your grooming goals and style preferences, ensuring your pet always looks their best!

  • We Require a Haircut Appointment Every 4-6 Weeks

As a general guideline, all clients requiring haircuts are expected to commit to appointments every 8 weeks or less. For haircuts longer than 1/2", appointments should occur every 6 weeks or less. Depending on your pet's coat, a more frequent schedule or additional bath & tidy appointments between haircuts may be recommended. Clients who do not adhere to a consistent schedule may find it challenging to secure appointments.

  • If You Get Off Schedule

Should a pet exceed the recommended schedule without a haircut and develop matting, shaving may be necessary. We do not offer dematting services for pets off schedule, regardless of the circumstances.

  • Adding Bath & Tidy Appointments

Bath and tidy appointments should be scheduled between haircut appointments, not as a substitute for them.

  • Prebooking Is Strongly Recommended

Clients are encouraged to prebook at least 6 months of appointments following their initial visit. Given our typically booked schedule, failure to prebook may result in challenges securing appointments within the recommended intervals. Prebooking ensures continuity in your pet's grooming schedule and upkeep.

Matting is uncomfortable and unhealthy for pets, potentially exacerbating skin conditions and reducing blood flow to the skin. To minimize matting, we collaborate with clients to establish a grooming schedule and haircut style that suits their pet's needs.

  • We Only Offer Limited Dematting

While we may offer one dematting session for pets adhering to the recommended schedule, we do not provide dematting services for puppies, senior pets, or those with grooming-related anxiety.

  • We Do Not Offer "Spot" Shaving

Spot shaving is discouraged, as it can lead to uneven coat lengths and recurrent matting. Instead, we advocate for proactive measures to prevent matting, such as regular grooming and home maintenance.

  • Repeated Incidents of Matting Will Require Shaving

Pets experiencing matting on multiple occasions within 6 months may require shaving. In such cases, adjustments to the grooming schedule or haircut style will be necessary moving forward.

Ultimately, our goal is to prevent matting through proactive grooming practices. We're here to support you in managing your pet's coat effectively and maintaining a positive grooming experience. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our salon remains a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for all pets.
